It’s eight in the morning in the restaurant Gorditas La Tia. Located in the Clearing neighborhood in the city of Chicago, food is being seasoned to taste, Mexican food craved by many customers: tamales, tacos, burritos, and tortas. These traditional dishes pay tribute to the tastes that’s most ancient to the land of corn; As a matter of fact, the name Gorditas is pure seasoning and gastronomic history in itself. A flavorful gift for the mouth!

Handling the rhythm of a restaurant isn’t easy, it quires a lot of work and compromise. Estela Gutirrez, the owner of the restaurant for 14 years now, does it very well.

What does Gorditas do differently compared to other restaurants?

Well, our food is delicious and we prepare it with much dedication and love in the kitchen so our customers enjoy the best mexican dishes.

Do you have a variety of foods in your menu?

Of course, there are many men who come in to drink our soups, the traditional pozole dish, and the quesadillas that are very popular.

Do you have any projects in mind? Any dreams?

Of course. We want to have a second restaurant in order to reach more customers and offer them our culinary services. 

Estela has put her heart into her craft in the kitchen and allows you to see how they open their doors everyday to serve their customers for 14 hours everyday. So, if you find yourself in the Clearing neighborhood and you crave spices, seasoned tortillas, the flavor of carnitas and guacamole like the one from Tijuana, then go visit Gorditas La Tia. They’re open until 10pm and only close on sundays. Prepare yourself for a festival of flavors!
